Silk brocade evening dress
English, 1840s; the silk Spitalfields, ca. 1745-55
Evening dress of ivory silk satin with discontinous brocaded wefts of flowering branches in shades of cerise red, pink, brown, cinnamon, yellow, and dark gray-green.

The fitted bodice with wide neckline and boning at V-shaped front; short sleeves trimmed with dark olive green silk fringe; full skirt; emerald green silk piping around armholes; emerald and dark olive green piping around waist; and center-back hook closure.

Remade from an eighteenth-century dress of Spitalfields silk.

In very good condition; some wear to the hem of the train.
