Pair of silk cannelé panels depicting Juno in her chariot
Possibly designed by Jacques Courtois or an imitator
French (Lyon), ca. 1733-40
44.5 x 10.5 in. (113.03 x 26.67 cm), each panel (irregularly shaped)
Pair of very finely woven green silk cannelé and tabby panels, heavily brocaded with polychrome silk and two kinds of gold and silver thread with architectural motifs, lush large–scale florals and foliage, and mythological figures; the goddess Juno is seated in her peacock–drawn chariot atop a cloud.

The two panels mirroring each other and originally having formed the sides of a chasuble; click here to see both lengths together. The silk is in excellent condition.
