French (Lyon), ca. 1733-40
44.5 x 10.5 in. (113.03 x 26.67 cm), each panel, irregular shape
Pair of finely woven green silk cannelé and tabby panels, heavily brocaded with polychrome silk and two kinds of gold and silver thread with architectural motifs, lush large–scale florals and foliage, and mythological figures; the goddess Juno is seated in her peacock–drawn chariot atop a cloud.

The two panels mirroring each other and originally having formed the sides of a chasuble; click here to see both lengths together.
