Afternoon ensemble (dress and shoulder cape) of eggplant–purple wool trimmed with matching silk moire. The dress with high neck with small standing collar, trimmed with ruched white silk chiffon; cuirass bodice with moire plastron and CF closure, the gilt–brass buttons with Venetian–style winged lions; long curved sleeves with pointed moire button cuffs trimmed with ruched chiffon; overskirt with deep horizontal pleats and wide moire band at hem, gathered into CF; ruched underskirt with deep pleated flounce at hem; CB bodice panel tightly smocked into waist and released into draped bustle with moire band at hem; interior pocket along bustle seam right side proper; shoulder cape trimmed with moire bands at neck, CF hook–and–eye closure, and around hem; inner boning on front darts and side seams and two set of tapes to tie bustle; finely striped beige and grey cotton lining; petersham waistband with gold label: “Arthur Chambers & Co. / Costume Manufacturers / Grantham”
