The pair of tie-dyed black synthetic satin boots, dating to about 1971, represent a high point in the career of Beth Levine during the late 1960s and early 1970s. The fabric was probably made by fellow Coty award winners Will and Eileen Richardson, the husband-and-wife duo behind Up Tied, the New York-based tie-dyed fabric business favored by Halston at the same moment that he looked to Levine for shoes. The Richardsons used a nearly identical fish motif on a one-of-a-kind black swimsuit and headscarf shown in Look magazine in 1971.
