A very rare and early embroidered cushion cover in red and yellow silk on white linen, with matching bobbin lace insertions. Plain rectangular field with wide borders, each with central winged putto face flanked by flowering cornucopia and fan-tailed birds; narrow inner and outer borders with stylized sprigs; worked in red and yellow silk thread in satin, running, feathering, and back stitches. The winged putto head is seen in the pattern book by Niccolo Zoppino, Convivio delle belle donne (1532).
Mending in the empty central field; area of discoloration in the embroidered border on one side; otherwise very good condition.
