Crewelwork bed curtain with wool embroidery on twilled fustian (linen/cotton) ground, one of a pair. With dense design of exotic florals, foliage, and birds including phoenixes in vivid shades of red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and pink. The large-scale flowers and twisting, serrated leaves on serpentine stems, interspersed with pairs of swooping, fantail birds and single, crested birds with spreading wings; wool on plain-weave fustian, primarily in satin, long-and-short, and chain stitches, and French knots.
Very good condition. Conserved to stabilize areas of embroidery and conservation mounted on linen over a stretcher. One of a pair, the second also conservation mounted.
