Painted mordant and resist-dyed cotton trade cloth pattern, produced on the Coromandel Coast for the Indonesian market. With patterns inspired by European and Mughal designs: narrow stripes with alternating motifs of European-style flamestitch embroidery and Mughal-style trifloral sprays in red, blue, and deep purple (almost black). Medium-width, vertical red stripes patterned with abstract and geometric shapes including diamonds enclosing stylized sprigs, dots, squiggles, and bowknots in red, blue, black & natural, alternating with narrow, natural stripes. Very good condition: tiny holes and scattered small modern repairs particularly at each end of panel (visible on back side).
