Sablé (fine glass beadwork) patch box, probably used to hold beauty patches worn by fashionable ladies in the later 18th century. The lid depicting a lady dressed as a shepherdess with lacing bodice and bergère hat with flowers, and the body banded with an inscription which may read as follows: JE SAIS TOUT ET JE NE DIT [sic] RIEN / ET LA TENDRESSE JE DIT [sic] LE BIEN (I know all and I say nothing / and the tenderness, I speak [of it] well). Lined in silk.
